ReliefWorks
ReliefWorks is an APWA program created to provide timely assistance to public works employees and their families affected by natural disasters across North America.
Through a local, chapter-led approach, ReliefWorks brings together APWA Chapters, members, staff, and supporters to help public works professionals when they need it most.
When a significant natural disaster impacts a community, APWA works with the local chapter to understand the needs of public works employees in the affected area and determine how ReliefWorks can provide meaningful assistance.
Support is coordinated locally whenever possible, allowing APWA Chapters to respond based on the unique needs of their communities.
ReliefWorks may assist with efforts such as:
- Meals and essential supplies for impacted public works employees and their families
- Local relief activities coordinated through APWA Chapters
- Immediate assistance following hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, wildfires, and other natural disasters
- Other forms of support identified based on local needs and available resources
The goal is simple: support the people who continue serving their communities, even when disaster has affected their own lives.
Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts
So much work has been done over the last several days, but there is still so much to be done. We continue to look to our community of equipment operators, providers, engineers, surveyors, UAV pilots, and field staff to provide guidance, resources, or support.
At this time we are asking for municipalities and companies who are available to provide assistance to reach out with the following information:
– type of equipment available
– staffing available
– repairs you are capable of
We are receiving requests for assistance daily and want to be prepared to deploy your assistance as fast as possible.
To view current requests, please click here or visit our Facebook (APWA-NC Chapter) and LinkedIn (APWA North Carolina) pages, please follow our pages for daily updates during storm events.
Please send this information to our Marketing and Social Media Chair, Magda Holloway, at mag4ncsu@yahoo.com to let her know what you have available.
We know that together we can help get through this and restore our communities.
