APWA-NC Streets Division Scholarship
The APWA-NC Streets Division is currently accepting nominations for our Annual Scholarship Program. This award will be based on written nominations with the following criteria:
- Two $1,500 Scholarships to an employee or student who recently enrolled in or is currently attending a school of higher learning to advance his/her career.
The Streets Division Board will meet to review and vote on all nominations during their scheduled September meeting. Scholarships will be presented October 12th at the 2023 Equipment Services/Streets Conference to be held at the Greenville Convention Center in Greenville, NC. The submittal deadline for the scholarship is August 23, 2023.
APWA-NC Equipment Services Division Scholarship
The APWA-NC Equipment Services Division is currently accepting nominations for our Annual Scholarship Program. This award will be based on written nominations with the following criteria:
- $2,500 Scholarship to an employee working in a municipal fleet that is currently attending a school of higher learning to advance his/her career.
The Equipment Services Division Board will meet to review and vote on all nominations during their scheduled September meeting. The Scholarship will be presented October 11th at the 2023 Equipment Services/Streets Conference to be held at the Greenville Convention Center in Greenville, NC. The submittal deadline for the scholarship is August 31, 2023.
The American Public Works Association – North Carolina Chapter (APWA-NC) will be awarding internship(s) to deserving student(s) in North Carolina. This program will assist students in attaining their career aspirations and building a foundation of future public works leaders. There are internship opportunities across the state of North Carolina. Internship(s) will last eight weeks and pay a minimum of $10.00/hour. The submittal deadline for the internship is May 19, 2023.
Current APWA-NC members from both public and private sectors who have NOT previously attended PWX are eligible to apply for a $2,000 stipend to attend the APWA PWX. Current board members are not eligible; however, committee members are eligible. Additional consideration will be given to employees of municipalities with a population of 50,000 or less. Applicants must have approval from their organization to support their attendance.
Stipend winners will be expected to share their experience attending PWX upon their return. This will include writing an article for the newsletter and presenting at a conference or a quarterly meet and greet. In addition, stipend winners will be asked to serve on the annual conference committee for the following year.
Submitted documents will not be returned. The application is open from the posting on the Chapter’s website until the deadline of May 19, 2023. The successful applicant will be notified by the end of May.

UNC School of Government Municipal & County Administration Course Scholarship
This scholarship is open to all current employees of municipalities, who are current APWA-NC
members. All applications and supporting documentation are to be submitted via e-mail to Mike MacIntyre at mmacintyre@huntersville.org
Submitted documents will not be returned. The application is open from the posting on the Chapter’s website until the deadline of May 19, 2023. The successful applicant will be notified by the end of March. The Chapter will work with the recipient, their organization and the North Carolina School of Government to complete the course registration. APWA Scholarship for Employees in the Public Works Field
Employees in the public works field are invited to apply for a reimbursable scholarship up to $2,000 to be awarded by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA). Must be an employee in a public works field. Must obtain a minimum of a “B” grade average, and have taken the class in the prior/current school year in order to be reimbursed and not be eligible for reimbursement from another source.
Completed applications and transcripts must be submitted by May 19, 2023. No late applications will be accepted.
