The American Public Works Association – North Carolina Chapter (APWA-NC) will be awarding internship(s) to deserving student(s) in North Carolina. This program will assist students in attaining their career aspirations and building a foundation of future public works leaders. There are internship opportunities across the state of North Carolina. Internship(s) will last ten weeks and pay a minimum of $15.00/hour.
The submittal deadline for the internship is May 2, 2025. Selected interns will be notified by May 16, 2025. No late applications will be accepted.
APWA-NC Streets Division Scholarship
The APWA-NC Streets Division is currently accepting nominations for our Annual Scholarship Program. This award will be based on written nominations with the following criteria:
- Two $1,500 Scholarships to an employee or student who recently enrolled in or is currently attending a school of higher learning to advance his/her career.
The submittal deadline for the scholarship is September 6, 2024.
APWA-NC Equipment Services Division Scholarship
The APWA-NC Equipment Services Division is currently accepting nominations for our Annual Scholarship Program. This award will be based on written nominations with the following criteria:
- $2,500 Scholarship to an employee working in a municipal fleet that is currently attending a school of higher learning to advance his/her career.
The submittal deadline for the scholarship is September 6, 2024.
The American Public Works Association – North Carolina Chapter (APWA-NC) will be awarding two (2) $4,000 scholarship(s) to deserving student(s) in North Carolina. This program will assist students in attaining their career aspirations and building a foundation of future public works leaders. The submittal deadline for the scholarship is April 15, 2025.
UNC School of Government Municipal & County Administration Course Scholarship
This scholarship is open to all current employees of municipalities with a population of 100,000 or less and/or counties with a population of 250,000 or less; who are current APWA-NC members.
Submitted documents will not be returned. The application is open from the posting on the Chapter’s website until the deadline of March 17, 2025. The successful applicant will be notified by mid-April 2025. The Chapter will work with the recipient, their organization and the North Carolina School of Government to complete the course registration. APWA Scholarship for Employees in the Public Works Field
Employees in the public works field are invited to apply for a reimbursable scholarship up to $4,000 to be awarded by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA). Must be an employee in a public works field. Must obtain a minimum of a “B” grade average, and have taken the class in the prior/current school year in order to be reimbursed and not be eligible for reimbursement from another source.
Completed applications and transcripts must be submitted by March 31, 2025. No late applications will be accepted.
APWA NC Past Presidents Scholarship
The American Public Works Association – North Carolina Chapter will be awarding $500 for
eligible Chapter and/or Division Past Presidents to attend APWA Conferences. The APWA-NC Past Presidents Scholarship aims to support individuals dedicated to advancing their careers in public works through training and professional development.
The submittal deadline for the scholarship is August 29, 2025.
Current APWA-NC members from both public and private sectors who have NOT previously attended PWX are eligible to apply for a $2500 stipend to attend the APWA PWX. Current board members are not eligible; however, committee members are eligible. Additional consideration will be given to employees of municipalities with a population of 100,000 or less and/or counties with a population of 250,000 or less. Applicants must have approval from their organization to support their attendance.
Stipend winners will be expected to share their experience attending PWX upon their return. This will include writing an article for the newsletter and presenting at a conference or a quarterly meet and greet. In addition, stipend winners will be asked to serve on the annual conference committee for the following year.
Submitted documents will not be returned. The application is open from the posting on the Chapter’s website until the deadline of June 13, 2025. PWX 2025 dates are August 17-20 in Chicago, Illinois.
APWA NC Young Professionals PWX Stipend
Current YP members of APWA-NC from both public and private sectors who have NOT previously attended PWX are eligible to apply for a $2,500 stipend to attend the APWA PWX. Current board members are not eligible; however, committee members are eligible. Additional consideration will be given to employees of municipalities with a population of 100,000 or less and/or counties with a population of 250,000 or less. Applicants must have approval from their organization to support their attendance. YP applicant must meet the YP designation at date of upcoming PWX.
YP Stipend winners will be expected to share their experience attending PWX upon their return. This will include writing an article for the newsletter and presenting at a conference or a quarterly meet and greet. In addition, stipend winners will be asked to serve on the annual conference committee for the following year.
