Stormwater Project of the Year Award

The Stormwater Management Division Board is excited to request nominations for the 2024 APWA North Carolina Stormwater Project of the Year. The winners will be announced at our conference this fall.

Purpose:  The APWA-NC Stormwater Project of the Year aims to promote excellence in the implementation of stormwater projects in North Carolina by recognizing the alliances between project owners, consultants, suppliers, and contractors that result in successful stormwater management improvement projects.

Awards are anticipated in two categories:

  1. Infrastructure – to include construction of stormwater management infrastructure such as pipe systems, culverts, bridges, stormwater control measures, green infrastructure, and similar installations.
  2. Natural Systems– Stream, wetland, and shoreline restoration, projects enhancing the natural environment, passive stormwater management, etc.

Eligibility:  Projects must be located in North Carolina, may be publicly or privately owned, and must have been substantially completed and available for use within 2 calendar years prior to nomination (2022). For projects with multiple phases, the final phase of the project considered for nomination must be at least 90% completed and available for use.

Nomination Process:  Nominations may be made by any party directly involved by the project but must be endorsed by the project’s owner. Please visit Awards – APWA North Carolina Chapter for additional required information to accompany each nomination. Multiple projects may be nominated by the same party.

Deadline for Nominations: July 19, 2024

Awards Presentation: Winners will be presented with their awards at our Stormwater Conference in Wilmington in September 2024. Winning projects may also be nominated for the Public Works Project of the Year, awarded by APWA National, and award recipients may be asked to contribute additional project information to complete the APWA National nomination form.

Please submit completed nomination forms and additional information in pdf format to Carrie.Mitchell@wake.gov and please note NC Stormwater Project of the Year in the subject line.

Stormwater Professional of the Year Award

One of the highlights of the Stormwater Management Division Annual Conference is the recognition of a stormwater professional that stands out among their peers for exceptional leadership, innovation, agency service, customer service, community service, and contribution to their profession in the stormwater field. The Stormwater Management Division Board is now accepting nominees from the North Carolina stormwater community for individuals who fit this description for the H. Rooney Malcom Stormwater Professional of the Year Award.

Please visit Awards – APWA North Carolina Chapter to nominate someone that you believe is deserving of this recognition. The recipient will receive a commemorative plaque and will be honored during this year’s Stormwater Management Division Conference. A brief narrative description (limited to 2 pages, single spaced, 12 point font, 1” margins) must be included with each nomination form describing why the person is being nominated using any of the following criteria: leadership, innovation, agency service, customer service, community service, and contribution to their profession.   We welcome previously nominated professionals who have not won before.

Please submit form and narrative to: Carrie.Mitchell@wake.gov by July 19, 2024
