APWA Commends the President for Signing Water Resources Reform and Redevelopment Act into Law
American Public Works Association (APWA) President Edward A. Gottko, PWLF, today commended President Obama for signing into law the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA). APWA-NC Chapter Forms Sustainability Committee
The Chapter Executive Board voted unanimously during their regular meeting on March 4, 2011 to form a Sustainability Committee. This new committee will focus on sustainable practices in public works. The group will define sustainability and what it means to the North Carolina Chapter. Further, the committee will serve as a conduit between National APWA, the Chapter Executive Board and the chapter membership concerning education and operational issues. Mr. Scott Whalen (WK Dickson, and a director on the Executive Board) has agreed to be the committees initial chair. Scott is currently seeking interested individuals, representing all aspects of public works, to serve as committee members.

APWA-NC Members Clean and Repair Ball Fields
APWA-NC Members from High Point, Archdale, and a few young men from Boy Scout Troop 207 (Midway, NC) work together to make needed improvements at the High Point Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, November 20, 2010. The project included cleanup and landscaping around both baseball fields, not to mention the clearing of a small jungle and fence repair behind the backstop. The director of the Boys and Girls Club, Tonia Stephenson, remarked on how the residents at the senior living facility behind home plate can see the kids play now. A special Thank You to Gary Smith, Keith Pugh, Scott Cherry, Dan Craver, DJ Señeres, Steven Myers, Reed Vanderzee and Sam Vanderzee for their hard work.
